Mitochondria May Help Connect Metabolism, Inflammation, and Biological Aging

Research published in Nature in 2026 examined how mitochondrial metabolism interacts with epigenetic regulation to influence the senescence-associated secretory phenotype (SASP)—the inflammatory signals produced by some senescent cells.

The significance extends beyond mitochondria themselves. It demonstrates how energy metabolism, gene regulation, cellular aging, and inflammatory signaling can interact rather than operate as independent processes.

That systems perspective is central to The Standardized Science of Personalized Wellness: understanding wellness requires looking not only at individual biological functions, but also at the communication occurring between them.

The future of wellness may depend as much on understanding biological communication as measuring individual biomarkers.
