Hormonal Signaling

Hormones Help Coordinate Communication Between Organs

Modern endocrinology increasingly shows that hormonal signaling cannot be understood simply as individual hormones acting on isolated organs. A 2025 review examined inter-organ communication involved in metabolic homeostasis and aging, including communication mediated by hormones, circulating metabolites, cytokines, mitochondrial signals and neuronal networks.

This makes it particularly well suited to  Hormonal Signaling Domain because it reinforces systems perspective: endocrine biology is fundamentally a communication network.

The authors also emphasize the hypothalamus as an important integrator of communication between peripheral organs, illustrating how hormonal signaling interacts with metabolism and aging rather than functioning independently.
